Production & Material
Responsible Production and Raw Materials
The Yung Atelier company practices responsible and ethical production – our studio process prioritizes materials that are as ethical as possible.
Our products are designed and “bench made,” end-to-end, by our very own in-house production team. Pieces are crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail. We prize quality, longevity and durability, increasing the lifespan of our pieces. We are committed to consciously sourcing our materials and seek out bio-based instead of oil-based materials including thread, ticking, linings and interlinings.
Carbon Negative
The Yung Atelier company voluntarily seeks to offset as much of our emissions as possible. From resource extraction to shipping, we approach each step of our process with an eye toward mitigating climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. We are in the process of obtaining a Carbon Neutral certification, and approximately 80% of waste generated in our facility is either composted or recycled. Renewable Energy
Energy production is the single largest contributor to carbon emissions worldwide. The Yung Atelier studio uses 100% renewable energy through Ambit Energy, consisting entirely of solar and wind power.
GOLS Organic Latex & Polyurethane Foam
We source high resilience polyurethane foam cores that can be recycled at the end of their life span – foam is pulverized and sold back to mills to be repurposed into rug pads. We also offer organic latex foam, certified by the Global Organic Latex Standard. All natural latex is derived from the sap of rubber trees and is completely biodegradable.
FSC Hardwoods & Adhesives
We purchase wood that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, ensuring legal harvest from responsibly managed lands. Adhesives used for upholstery wrapping and millwork contain lower amounts of VOC’s and harsh chemicals in order to lessen environmental impact and toxins entering the home.
Natural Fibers & Down Blends
We source down blends that are free of animal cruelty. Most down products originate from geese and ducks subjected to force-feeding or live-plucking; our materials are certified by the Responsible Down Standard as part of our effort to trace blends and ensure ethical manufacturing. Linings, interlinings and downproof tickings are 100% cotton as opposed to lower cost polyester blends, which require millions of barrels of oil for production each year. Whereas polyester requires 20 to 200 years to decompose, cotton decomposes in five months and linen two weeks.
